Planning for the Third Age: An Introduction to Continuing Care/Life Plan Communities

September 15, 2021 at 11:00 am

Aging in place or making a move, options for retirement seem plentiful but can be overwhelming. Often referred to as “the third age” in gerontology, retirement can be simultaneously carefree and complicated. North Carolina boasts dozens of continuing care retirement communities, but no two are alike in community or contract. John DiMiceli, lecturer with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Duke on retirement and retirement communities, is partnering with The Forest at Duke to demystify the choices and provide in-depth information about contracts, cost, and the continuum of care.

More about the lecturer: John DiMiceli moved to the Triangle in 2014 after a career in local government in Massachusetts. He holds a B.A. from Williams College and an M.P.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. For several semesters at OLLI, this former Peace Corps volunteer taught “Retirement Communities” as well as the parent course, “Stay Put or Move On.”

This free virtual offering is intended for those interested in learning about retirement communities as they think about and plan for the future.
