Empty Bowls to End Homelessness

Support through serving
Urban Ministries of Durham provides food, shelter, and a future to neighbors in need. For starters, they make a difference in the community through their shelter, café, food pantry, and clothing closet.
Empty Bowls is an important event for the organization. Altogether, over 1,000 ticket holders joined to fill empty bowls with hope at this year’s gathering. The event supports Urban Ministries’ goal of ending homelessness for 300 people in a single year.
The family friendly evening included music and an opportunity to learn more about the organization’s important work. Local artists made hundreds of beautiful, handcrafted bowls; with special tickets, event attendees could pick out a bowl to take home.
Tasty soups to sample
Notably, featured soups were prepared by a number of local organizations. For example, Bull City Burger and Brewery, Jack Tar & The Colonel’s Daughter, and Core Catering‘s Second Helping shared dishes at the event.
Looking to the future
We are very proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Empty Bowls event. Our long standing partnership with Urban Ministries began with Forest residents volunteering their time to pack lunches.
Since then, we’ve enjoyed taking part in fundraising events, providing grants, and so much more.
Overall, this year’s Empty Bowls event was a big success. We look forward to many more events with Urban Ministries in the future!
