Empty Bowls to End Homelessness

Empty Bowls is the signature event for Urban Ministries of Durham, the private, non-sectarian downtown charity that provides food, shelter and a future to neighbors in need, helping reach the goal of ending homelessness for 300 people in a single year. At Empty Bowls 2018, over 1,000 ticket holders had the chance to sample soups prepared by local chefs and vote for their favorites. Local artists and artisans made hundreds of hand-crafted bowls, and with certain tickets, event attendees were able to take a bowl home.

The Forest at Duke was incredibly proud to be the title sponsor of this year’s Empty Bowls event. The Forest at Duke has a long standing partnership with Urban Ministries of Durham, which began with Forest residents volunteering their time to pack lunches and has grown to include participating in fundraising events, providing financial support through grants, and so much more.

The event was a huge success and we look forward to many more event partnerships in the future!
