Anita L. Holt, MPH

President / CEO

Anita L. Holt is a seasoned professional in the field of aging services with more than 25 years of executive leadership in continuing care and senior living communities.  She is an advocate of innovation and strategic service and program development that responds to the emerging needs of older adults.  Ms. Holt holds a Master of Public Health from Boston University/SPH and is a proud graduate of Northeastern University.

Ellen Brown

Director of Sales and Marketing

Ellen Brown joined The Forest in June 2015, bringing to this role more than 20 years of experience as an accomplished leader in sales, marketing and public relations. In addition to directing the sales and marketing for independent living at The Forest, Ellen provides oversight and branding control of all marketing materials, advertising and media placement.

Ellen started her career at the powerhouse advertising agency McCann-Erickson in New York City and went on to lead successful marketing and sales campaigns in various industries. She moved from Manhattan to Pinehurst in 2002. Prior to The Forest at Duke, Ellen served as the Director of Sales & Marketing at several CCRCs in NC for more than a decade. Originally from Southampton, New York, Ellen Brown is a graduate of Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York.

Heidi K. White, MD, MHS, MEd -Medical Director

Medical Director

Heidi K. White, MD, MHS, MEd is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine of the Duke University School of Medicine.  She serves as the Vice-Chief for Clinical Affairs of the Geriatrics Division.  Her expertise pertains to geriatric medicine, long-term care medicine, curriculum development in these areas and clinical research pertaining to dementia and long-term care.  She serves on the AGS Clinical Practice and Models of Care Committee and is the current president of AMDA, The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine.

Donna Cook, NHA

Director of Health Services

Donna more than 30 years of experience working with seniors. She earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with concentration in Community Health Programming, and holds licenses for both Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Administration. She’s worked as an administrator for more than 15 years in several NC skilled nursing or assisted living communities. Trained on the Eden Alternative, one of the earliest concepts for culture change in long term care, she has written grants to NC Dept. of Health and Human Services for funds to assist traditional nursing facilities on their journey to changing from their medical model communities, to a homelike model with neighborhood programming.

Originally from Asheville, NC, both of Donna’s degrees were earned at East Carolina University. She has utilized her strengths as a problem-solver, team builder, and leader, and is open to adapting her skills into varied and challenging healthcare roles.

Director of Dining Services

Karen Henry

Director of Finance / CFO and Treasurer

Ms. Henry has served as the Director of Finance since June, 2005 and also serves as the Treasurer and the Assistant Secretary to the Corporation’s Board of Directors.  As Director of Finance, Ms. Henry is responsible for the accounting and financial administration of The Forest, as well as assisting the Executive Director with budgeting and long-range planning.  Ms. Henry has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant.  She began her career as an audit professional with KPMG LLP, Harrisburg, PA and continued in internal audit with Hershey Foods Corporation, Hershey, PA.  She then spent five years in the clinical research industry at Quintiles Transnational Corporation in increasing roles of responsibility (Financial Analyst, Senior Manager, Associate Director) in the Consolidation/SEC/Financial Reporting Department and most recently as Senior Manager/Controller at Constella Group.  Ms. Henry is also a member of the NC Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Andrea McDade

Director of Human Resources

Andrea is a North Carolina native with over ten years of experience working in the healthcare industry. In 2001, she began her career path in senior living working at Evergreens Senior Healthcare as a Social Worker. Later, in an endeavor to make a greater impact on the lives of residents and employees, Andrea transitioned to the field of Human Resources (HR). Andrea is passionate about providing an optimal level of service to promote an exceptional customer service experience. Academically, Andrea has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and graduate degrees in Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Keller Graduate School of Management of Devry University. Additionally, she has a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management, and is certified with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP), and the HR Certification Institute (Professional in Human Resources). Throughout her HR career, Andrea has held the positions of Coordinator, Analyst, Manager, and Director. Most recently, prior to joining the Executive Leadership team at The Forest at Duke, Andrea held the positions of Regional Director, Human Resources at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, and Divisional Director, Human Resources at Emeritus Senior Living. In her roles with Brookdale and Emeritus, Andrea was the HR leader for geographically dispersed communities within the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) Division.

Sandy Mouras

Director of Resident Life

Sandy Mouras joined The Forest at Duke in September 2011.  As the Director of Resident Life, she is responsible for developing distinct, vibrant programs and services in independent living which support the interest and needs of residents to be engaged and supported in pursuits both internal and external to the community.  In 2017, Sandy was selected as a fellow with the Leading Age NC Leadership Academy.   She holds a BA from James Madison University and is a proud member of the Urban Ministries of Durham Board of Directors.

Nathan Summers

Director of General Services

Nathan Summers has spent over 15 years in the service of seniors before coming to The Forest at Duke.

During his 25 year career, Nathan has led teams in all service areas including maintenance, security, housekeeping, landscaping, and administration. Nathan was recognized in 2015 by North Carolina Leading Age for “Excellence in Customer Service”.

A Certified Aging Services Professional, Nathan has worked with various project development teams and with post-construction implementations. These include major renovations to the historic Pinehurst Country Club in preparation for the 1999 Men’s U.S. Open Golf Championship and the renovation of the 100 year old five-story Pine Needles Hotel for senior living apartments. He has helped two communities receive the important CARF accreditation for CCRCs.
